Hunsur: Observing that preservation of historical documents is important for carrying out research and learning history, Mysuru Division Archives Officer Dr. Gavi Siddaiah said that students should always be keen on learning our history and traditions.

He was speaking at a seminar on ‘Significance of Historical Records’ organised jointly by the State Archives Department and Centre for Gandhian Studies, Mysuru, at Arya Vaishya Kalyana Mantap here recently.

Pointing out that the State Archives Department was established in 1973 and the Department’s Mysuru Division Office came into existence in 1984, Dr. Gavi Siddaiah said that the Department has a collection of over 11,000 original records and documents running over 10 lakh pages. He further said that the Department has many rare records related to Mysuru Dasara, Freedom Struggle and many Movements.

Earlier, KSGH Music and Performing Arts University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Sarvamangala Shankar, who spoke after inaugurating seminar, said that there is richness in Indian culture and heritage. She highlighted the importance of preserving invaluable records and documents pertaining to our history and research, innovation etc.,    through the ages.

Tamil Nadu’s Periyar University faculty Dr. S. Xavier delivered a lecture on Mahatma Gandhi. ZP Member Dr. Pushpa Amarnath, Centre for Gandhian Studies Director Prof. S. Shivarajappa, G.V. Shivaraj of Bengaluru, Mysuru Maharaja College former faculty Prof. Vasanthamma, Hunsur Government First Grade College for Women Principal Gnanaprakash and others were present.
