Valedictory of Sixth Zonal-level Police Duty Meet at KPA auditorium

Mysuru: DIGP (Southern Range) Dr. M.B. Boralingaiah has said that more emphasis has been laid on scientific methods of investigation in the newly implemented criminal laws. Hence, the Police should follow the suit to take the criminal cases to its logical end, to provide justice to the victims.

The DIGP was presiding over the valedictory ceremony of sixth zonal-level Police Duty Meet-2024 of the Southern Range, at the new auditorium of Karnataka Police Academy (KPA) here on Tuesday.

Dr. Boralingaiah said, the scientific evidence assumes significance than the oral evidence in the investigation of any cases. The officers and the personnel should evince more interest and study the scientific investigation methods. To improve efficacy of the personnel in the department, sports and other activities are being organised. Sports helps in increasing the physical ability of the personnel and brings positive impact in the functioning of Department.

Accordingly, we have to take key responsibility in taking the cases to its logical end. We have to develop the ability to gather evidences, after registering criminal cases, followed by investigation. The next level is submission of charge sheet to the Court to facilitate the Public Prosecutor to argue the case convincingly and ensure that the guilty is brought to book and the victims get justice, he said.

Be it any investigation, we should take more interest. The method of gathering scientific evidence includes, dog squad, inspection of crime scene, collection of finger prints, DNA and photographic evidences and related reports. The investigators should achieve capability in these methods of investigation and the Police Duty Meet comes in handy in honing these qualities, he said.

The rate of conviction is low in criminal justice system. Especially in the cases of harassment, the rate of conviction is between 2 percent and 3 percent. Hence, we have to add more teeth in rendering justice to the victims, said the DIGP.
