Hookah bars raided: Equipment seized, Rs.62,000 fine collected

Mysuru: City Crime Branch (CCB) Police, which raided two hookah bars on Kalidasa Road and near Lalitha Mahal Palace for violating Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) yesterday, have seized various equipment and flavoured tobacco packets from the hookah bars.

The CCB Police first raided 18 Plus Ice Cafe on Kalidasa Road, which was found violating COTPA by facilitating minors to smoke tobacco and imposed a fine of Rs.31,200 on H.P. Purushotham, Manager of the hookah bar, besides seizing equipment and tobacco packets and sealing it.

In the second raid, the CCB Police raided Charcoal Circuit Cafe and Restaurant near Lalitha Mahal Helipad for violating COTPA by allowing minors to smoke tobacco and imposed a fine of Rs.30,800 on L. Lohith, Manager of the Cafe, besides seizing equipment and tobacco packets and closing down the Cafe.

DCP M. Muthuraj and In-charge CCB ACP G.N. Mohan supervised CCB Inspector A. Mallesh and staff Purushotham, K.J. Srinivas and Mohan in the raid and seizing operation, according to a press release from the PRO, City Police Commissioner’s office.
