Hope-A-Thon marks World Cancer Day

Mysuru/Mysore: Marking ‘World Cancer Day’, Bharath Hospital and Institute of Oncology, Mysuru, had organised a cancer awareness walkathon titled ‘Hope-A-Thon’ in city this morning.

About 800 students of nursing schools and colleges took part in the event which commenced from Dasara Exhibition Grounds passing through Jayachamaraja Wadiyar (Hardinge) Circle and Chamaraja Circle before returning to the starting point. 

The participants carried placards with meaningful messages to create awareness on cancer. The theme of the event was ‘I am and I will’, to inspire and encourage action from individuals, health community and Government to improve public awareness and create access to early detection, screening and diagnosis of cancer.

Flagging off the ‘Hope-A-Thon,’ RBI Bank Note Paper Mill Managing Director K.G. Viswanathan opined that cancer can be managed and possibly cured too through early detection and regular screening with appropriate treatment.

Bharath Hospital and Institute of Oncology Director Anjali Ajaikumar asked people to take proper care of health and diet with regular exercise and preventive check-ups. She stressed the importance of periodic screening and early diagnosis for better outcome in cancer care.

Mayor Tasneem, Bharath Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. M.S. Vishweshwara, ENT Specialist Dr. Bharathi and others were present.
