How safe are our children in schools of Mysuru?

November 22, 2025

Sir,

This is with reference to the news published in Star of Mysore dated Nov. 10 about the physical assault of an 8th standard schoolboy by his fellow schoolmates in one of the prestigious schools of Mysuru.

The news comes as a shock, especially after learning about the grievous nature of the injuries sustained by the boy, which necessitated the removal of  one of his testicles.

The victim was said to have been consistently harassed prior to this life-endangering assault, and despite the parents bringing these incidents to the school leadership, no solutions were provided.

Every parent of school-going children in the city has lost their peace of mind after this report. Children spend more time in school than at home and the former must offer a safe and nurturing atmosphere for them to learn, play and thrive intellectually, physically and emotionally.

Getting to know that the alleged accused were also from the same school reflects huge negligence on the part of the school leadership in handling such a sensitive issue.

It is earnestly urged that the managements of all schools in Mysuru maintain strict vigilance over day-to-day issues occurring on their campuses and never ignore even the smallest concern raised by parents regarding the safety and well-being of their wards.
