Mysore/Mysuru: Hundreds of Anganwadi workers and their assistants, led by the District Unit of Karnataka State Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Federation, staged a protest in city yesterday seeking fulfilment of various demands including increase in honorarium.
The protestors, who came from different parts of the district, assembled at Old DC Office premises, shouted slogans against the Government and sat on a dharna.
Demanding that the honorarium of Anganwadi workers and helpers be increased to Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 10,000 respectively, the protestors urged the State Government to announce an amount of Rs. 3 lakh to them on retirement apart from paying a monthly pension of Rs. 5,000 to both Anganwadis and Helpers.
The protestors also demanded that directives issued by various Departments to start Kid Care Centres (Shishupalana Kendra) and Pre-School (LKG and UKG) be withdrawn and the same should be set up at Anganwadi Centres with special facilities.
Apart from this, they urged the Government to fill the vacant posts of Anganwadi and Helpers within three months.
Anganwadi workers and helpers from Mysuru city, rural, T.Narasipur, H.D. Kote and Periyapatna taluks participated in the protest.
