Hundreds ‘Run for Unity’ in Mysuru

Hundreds of people from all walks of life including students in large numbers participated in ‘Run for Unity’ marathon organised as part of National Unity Day (Rashtriya Ekta Diwas) in city this morning.

The event was organised by Mysuru City Police in association with Alert Citizens Team (ACT) as part of the nationwide Unity call given by Union and State Governments to commemorate the 143rd birth anniversary of Iron Man of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

City Police Commissioner Dr. A. Subramanyeswara Rao flagged off the marathon at St. Philomena’s Church in city around 7 am. Speaking after administering the oath for the participants to protect the unity and integrity of the nation, the City Police Commissioner highlighted the significance of celebrating the National Unity Day.

City Police Commissioner Dr. A. Subramanyeswara Rao, St. Philomena’s Church Parish Priest Rev. Fr. N.T. Joseph, Dr. Javeed Nayeem and others seen flagging off the ‘Run for Unity’ marathon in the premises of St. Philomena’s Church this morning.

He exhorted the youths to contribute their mite for the progress, betterment of the country apart from upholding dignity, integrity, plural and secular ethos of the nation. The Union Government has been promoting ‘Run for Unity’ to strengthen the bonding among people.

Later, to motivate the participants, Dr. Subramanyeswara Rao,  DCPs N. Vishnuvardhana and Dr. Vikram V. Amathe, City Armed Reserve DCP Basavaraj V. Kittur, ACT Members and others, sporting athletic wear affixed with stickers bearing the slogan ‘Run for Unity,’ ran from St. Philomena’s Church on Ashoka Road to Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple, Palace North Gate.

The marathon, which began around 7 am, passed via Azam Masjid, Nehru Circle before culminating at Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple.

ACT Members  Ln. Arunkumar, Murali, Srihari of GSS Foundation, former IPS officer Dr. Bhaskar Rao, Dr. Javeed  Nayeem, Corporator Subbaiah,   ACPs C. Gopal, Hirrannaiah,  G.N. Mohan, Dharamppa, CFTRI Director Dr. KSMS Raghavarao, all Police Inspectors, CAR, KSRP, KPA officials of the city took part in the event.

Breakfast

Following the marathon, the Police Department had arranged breakfast for the participants at Curzon Park in which kesaribath, upma, idli-vada was served.

National Unity Day across district

National Unity Day was observed across the district to foster, reinforce dedication to preserve and strengthen unity, security and integrity of the nation.

Series of events like Run for Unity, voluntary blood donation, seminar, quiz competition, march-past by Police Department troupes were also held in town, taluk and district headquarters to pay tributes to India’s first Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister.

A Voluntary Blood Donation was held at Vidyavardhaka Law College premises where hundreds of youths, Cops and College staff donated blood.

March-Past in the evening

A march-past is organised by the Police Department from Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple today (Oct.31) at 4.30 pm. The march-past will pass through Big Clock Tower Circle, Ashoka Road, Nehru Circle and culminate at St. Philomena’s Church.

All wings of Police Department including Mounted Police  and Police Band will take part in the march-past.
