Report to Cops if interstate travellers stay for more than two days

Mysore/Mysuru:  The Hunsur Rural Police have stepped up surveillance following the recent busting of a synthetic drug racket at a farmhouse between Rathnapuri and Dasanapura villages in Hunsur taluk, where 7.35 kg of Mephedrone and 41 kg of drug precursor worth about Rs. 12 crore were seized.

While one Police team has travelled to Mumbai in search of the kingpin behind the drug cartel, local Police are also engaging tourism stakeholders as an additional precautionary measure.

A meeting of hoteliers operating lodges, resorts and homestays was convened recently in Hunsur. Dy.SP of Hunsur Sub-Division Ravi and Hunsur Rural Police Inspector Santosh Kashyap issued specific guidelines during the meeting.

Operators were instructed to obtain Aadhaar details of customers at check-in and to capture live photographs for verification.

Police said an estimated 20 tourist facilities, including lodges, resorts and homestays, operate in and around Hunsur.

Police advised operators to inform jurisdictional Police if inter-state travellers stay for more than two days, and to remain alert for suspicious persons in restaurants and public places.

Norms for NOC

Speaking to Star of Mysore, Dy.SP Ravi said that new hotels with lodging facilities must install CCTV cameras, maintain live surveillance systems and provide adequate parking facilities to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Police.

He said these precautionary measures are intended not only to curb drug trafficking but also to prevent other criminal activities.
