Husband killed, wife seriously injured as lorry rams into scooter

Gonikoppal:  A man was killed on the spot and his wife suffered serious injuries when a lorry rammed into their scooter at Thittimathi.

The deceased is Subramani (50) and his seriously injured wife who is admitted at K.R. Hospital in Mysuru is 40-year-old Manjula.

The two, who were proceeding on their scooter from Gonikoppal to Periyapatna, tried to avoid potholes when the lorry coming from behind rammed into the scooter killing Subramani on the spot.

Ponnampet Police, who have registered a case in this regard, are investigating.

Ambulances not available: The public, who gathered at the spot soon after the mishap, called the ambulance service to shift the injured Manjula to Thittimathi Health Centre but in vain and also called 108 and the result was the same. Soon, an ambulance belonging to Gonikoppal Vehicle Drivers Association arrived and the injured was shifted to Gonikoppal Community Health Centre, from where she was shifted to Mysuru.
