Mysore/Mysuru: The 100-year-old PKTB & CD Hospital (Sanatorium), Mysuru, which has a distinction of recording ‘zero mortality’ cases of Corona positive patients at its Centre, is all set to add ICU and High Dependency Unit (HDU) beds in the special ICU facility.

“It is a matter of pride that the ICU beds are created in the hospital for giving an excellent treatment to Corona positive patients. Once these beds are ready it is possible to give more service to patients,” opined Dr. M. Jayashekar, Resident Medical Officer of PKTB & CD Hospital.

“The pipeline work for oxygen supply is over. Five more ventilators are coming. The monitor equipment are yet to come. The ICU with six ICU beds and six HDU beds are getting ready. Patients in serious condition will be treated in this unit. As many as 30 junior doctors have joined the Hospital for three months period. Ten each were working in District Covid Hospital, Trauma Care Centre and PKTB Sanatorium. Young doctors were offering full co-operation to give good service. Their services could be taken more in the proposed ICU,” he told SOM.

Oxygen supply pipeline works completed at the hospital.

Dr. Jayashekar said eight Post- Graduate students were doing research in PKTB Hospital. Earlier, the researchers were going to other Hospitals to learn more about treatment in ICU and henceforth, they could learn here itself.

The recent Coronavirus has been the main cause for the establishment of ICU Ward in the Hospital as 240 patients, who were admitted to Hospital with breathlessness, have gone back home after recovery thanks to tireless efforts of dedicated doctors, nurses and other staff members. “Our team of doctors is ready to face the possible third wave of COVID-19 pandemic. They can offer good treatment for patients during the third wave if the medicines were supplied to the Hospital,”  he noted.

Ready in two months

“A separate ICU Ward is being constructed at PKTB&CD Hospital. It is expected to be ready within two months. Five ventilators are given for this Ward. Preparations are going on to face the third wave of COVID-19 pandemic”. — Dr. C.P. Nanjaraj, Dean and Director,  Mysore Medical College and Research Institute
