Hunsur: Asking Police personnel to keep a close tab on the activities of rowdy sheeters and anti-social elements, IGP (Southern Range) Umesh Kumar has directed the Police to extern all anti-social elements who are facing many cases.
He was addressing Police personnel of Hunsur sub-division, after visiting hyper-sensitive booths in Hunsur taluk, at the Hunsur DySP office here on Saturday.
Pointing out that many polling booths in Hunsur, H.D. Kote and Periyapatna taluks coming under Hunsur Sub-Division were considered as sensitive, the IGP said that Police personnel should keep a close vigil on the movement of naxalites along the Kerala border and Nagarahole forest range.
Directing the Policemen to get inputs on the law and order in every village in the run up to the Lok Sabha polls, Umesh Kumar said that special steps must be taken for tracing the accused who have been issued non-bailable warrants. SP Amit Singh said that the Police should get inputs on the political situation in every village on a regular basis. Pointing out that local Police should make a list of political leaders in every village coming under their jurisdiction, he emphasized the role of Police in ensuring a free and fair polls.
Replying to a question on charges that the Police have unnecessarily opened rowdy-sheets against innocent youth, Amit Singh said that the Police will open rowdy sheets only on records and those who feel they have been targeted can move the Courts. Referring to the demand for a Traffic Police Station at Hunsur, IGP Umesh Kumar said that a proposal has been sent and the issue will be discussed with higher authorities.
