K.R. Pet (Mandya): K.R. Pet Police have arrested three doctors for allegedly involved in conducting illegal sex determination tests and failing to report teenage pregnancy cases. Meanwhile, another doctor, allegedly involved in case, is said to be at large.
The accused have been identified as Dr. Divya Chethana of Chethana Maternity Centre, Dr. Harshitha of Navi Diagnostic Centre and Dr. Harish of Kushal Diagnostic Centre.
The arrests were made following the recent raids conducted by Lokayukta sleuths led by SP Suresh Babu on the diagnostic centres following complaints regarding the illegal sex determination tests.
It may be recalled that Upa Lokayukta Justice B. Veerappa, on registering a suo moto case on Apr. 16, had ordered for a thorough investigation following which teams, comprising Lokayukta sleuths from Mysuru, Mandya and Ramanagara, were formed and raids were conducted at Taluk Hospitals in Nagamangala, K.R. Pet, Mandya, Maddur, Srirangapatna, Malavalli & Pandavapura, Office of District Family Welfare Officer, Navi Diagnostic Centre, Kushal Diagnostic Centre among others.
During the raids, it was found the a few Government officials had misused their power. The Lokayukta sleuths also found that seven teenagers below 18 years of age had undergone scanning and in 64 cases, age proof certificate were not collected.
The sleuths also found that the gynaecologists working in Taluk Hospitals were referring the patients to private diagnostic centres instead of referring them to District Government Hospitals.
Following this, a total of 12 cases were filed in K.R. Pet Town and Rural Police Stations under the POCSO Act and several other provisions of law.
The accused Dr. Chethana, Dr. Harshitha and Dr. Harish were produced before a Court and were remanded to Judicial Custody. Police are on lookout for Dr. Priyanka, another accused who is absconding.
Further, the Police have taken up investigation at other taluks of Mandya district.
