Inadequate height of traffic signal lights

February 15, 2021

Sir,

This refers to the reader’s letter “Tilted traffic pole on Ring Road needs attention” (SOM dated Feb. 1). Even in most of the signal junctions, the traffic lights are not installed at adequate height. As a result, those driving cars, scooters, autos etc. and travelling just behind heavy vehicles like bus and lorry can’t see the signal lights.

I myself have experienced this any number of times while driving car near the signal junction following heavy vehicles blindly.

There are instances wherein I have followed the bus without seeing the signal light though sometimes it was showing red.

This in turn may lead to violation of traffic rules, jumping signals, freak accidents etc. Hence, I request the authorities concerned to install the traffic lights at adequate place and height.
