Include KRS, villages in Bruhat Mysuru Mahanagara Palike

January 23, 2025

Sir,

We, the residents of Zuari Garden City, Hulikere village, Srirangapatna Taluk, seek Mysuru District Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa’s immediate attention and intervention regarding the formation of the Bruhat Mysuru Mahanagara Palike (Greater Mysuru) and the inclusion of KRS and surrounding villages.

The Brindavan Gardens at KRS is renowned worldwide, attracting both domestic and international tourists. Recently, the Government of Karnataka approved a mega beautification project worth Rs. 2,200 crore under a public-private partnership model to enhance tourism.

However, the roads leading to this iconic destination are marred by garbage due to inadequate waste management systems by local Gram Panchayats. Areas near BEML, behind Infosys and fields adjacent to the main road have turned into dumping grounds.

The Gram Panchayats lack the expertise to address these challenges, jeopardising Mysuru’s reputation and its standing as a premier tourist destination is under threat.

Additionally, the Mysuru-Bengaluru Highway project connecting the Mysuru-Kushalnagar 4-lane Highway is set to commence soon. This development will transform Belagola Paper Mill Circle into a significant transit hub, especially for residents of Hootagalli, Vijayanagar and Koorgalli. Unfortunately, there is no public transportation from these areas, forcing residents to pay exorbitant charges to rickshaw and cab drivers.

Furthermore, street-lights are installed only up to BEML, leaving the stretch to Belagola Paper Mill Circle in darkness. Numerous new layouts, presumably MUDA-approved, are emerging near the Railway underpass, but they lack proper underground sewerage and garbage management systems, posing severe environmental risks.

Due to territorial disputes, several Government schemes have failed to benefit village residents. The recent sanction of a Rs. 540-crore water treatment plant in Hale Unduwadi aims to supply potable Cauvery water to Mysuru and nearby villages. Unfortunately, implementation has stalled due to inter-departmental issues.

We urge Dr. Mahadevappa to leverage his esteemed position to facilitate the expedited establishment of the Bruhat Mysuru Mahanagara Palike and incorporate KRS, Hulikere and all adjacent villages into it.

This action will promote comprehensive development and attract significant investments, particularly in the hospitality sector, thereby creating employment opportunities for local youths.
