IAP Mysuru Branch empowers 150 students with lifesaving skills under Nationwide Sanjeevani Campaign

Mysuru: Every year, thousands of Indians suffer sudden cardiac arrest outside hospitals. Survival often depends on one simple but crucial factor — whether a nearby person can recognise the emergency, activate emergency medical services and immediately begin cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Immediate bystander CPR can significantly improve survival and save lives.

In line with this vision, the Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP), Mysuru Branch, under the Nationwide IAP CPR Day-2026 — Sanjeevani Campaign, conducted a CPR Mass Awareness and Hands-on Training Programme on July 21 at Mysore West Lions Sevaniketan School, in association with the Lions Club of Mysore West.

The programme was inaugurated by Dr. S.N. Mothi (President, Lions Club of Mysore West) in the presence of Ln. Ali Vagh (Secretary), Ln. Neha Ahluwalia (Treasurer), Ln. Gururaja, Ln. Paramjit Singh, Dr. K.B. Shashikiran (Vice-President, IAP Karnataka, Mysuru Zone), Dr. P. Shivu (IAP Mysuru President), Dr. K. Anusha Raj (IAP Mysuru Secretary), Dr. Mallikarjunaswamy (IAP Mysuru Treasurer), Dr. Sarika (EB Member, IAP Mysuru), School Principal Dr. Roopa Karumbaiah, Course Coordinators and CPR Champions.

The programme witnessed the participation of 150 high school students, who were educated on the chain of survival, early recognition of cardiac arrest, activation of emergency medical services, high-quality chest compressions, AED awareness and the importance of prompt bystander CPR. Through engaging demonstrations and supervised hands-on practice using CPR mannequins, students gained practical skills and confidence to respond effectively during cardiac emergencies.

The training was coordinated by Dr. B.H. Yashwanth and Dr. K. Anusha Raj, with the support of dedicated CPR Champions and Instructors including Dr. Krishna Kumar, Dr. Shankar Prasad, Dr. Anupama Pandey, Dr. K.B. Shashikiran, Dr. P. Shivu  and Dr. Mallikarjunaswamy, who guided the participants through structured skill stations and interactive learning sessions.

This programme was part of the Indian Academy of Paediatrics’ Presidential Action Plan-2026, spearheaded by Dr. Neelam Mohan, President, IAP, under the national theme: “Learn CPR. Save Lives. Build a CPR-Ready India.”

Conducted under the leadership of the IAP ALS-BLS Group, the record-setting Nationwide Sanjeevani Campaign trained more than 50,000 citizens across India in a single day, making lifesaving CPR knowledge accessible to every community.

By empowering young citizens with CPR knowledge and practical training, the programme strengthened community preparedness and reinforced the message that every citizen can become a lifesaver.
