Indian basketball teams depart for Commonwealth Games

The Indian men and women’s basketball teams departed for Australia in preparation for the Commonwealth Games (CWG)-2018 to be held in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, from Apr.4 to 15.

The Indian basketball contingent will reach Gold Coast three weeks ahead of the start of the main event. Indian players will be on a exposers trip in the Runaway Bay Super Sports Centre where they will continue their training that was previously going on at Sree Kanteerava Indoor Stadium in Bengaluru since Feb.1. This will be only the second time since 2006 that basketball is part of the CWG.

Yadwinder Singh was announced as captain for the Men’s team. He is the only player for India who will be playing in his second CWG. Shireen Limaye was selected as the captain for the women’s team.

The men’s team is in Pool-B alongside England, Cameroon and Scotland whereas women’s team is in Pool-B alongside New Zealand, Jamaica and Malaysia.

Anjana, Jeena Scaria, Shireen Limaye, Anmolpreet Kaur and Barka Sonkar; Head Coach – Zoran Visic, Coach – Shiba Maggon, Physio – Ranjan Sharma and Manager – Ajay Sud.

Men: Ravi Bharadwaj, Satnam Singh, Arshpreet Singh Bhullar, A. Aravind, P. Akhilan, J. Justin, G.P. Jeevanantham, Yadwinder Singh, Joginder Singh, Amritpal Singh, Amjyot Singh and Rajinder Singh; Head Coach – G.R.L. Prasad; Physio – Rajkumar Dubey and Manager – Shakti Singh Gohil.
