Mysuru: India is well on course to establish its own space station by 2047, said Padma Shri Dr. A.S. Kiran Kumar, former Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman and member of the Space Commission.
He was speaking during a technical talk on ‘Space Technology’ held at Seshadripuram Institute of Technology (SIT), in Kadakola Industrial Area, Mysuru.
The renowned space scientist engaged with engineering students during the session, offering deep insights into India’s landmark missions, including Chandrayaan and Mangalyaan.
Reflecting on India’s space journey, Dr. Kiran Kumar said, “While other nations made significant strides in space research during the 1950s, India’s progress was minimal. It was the unwavering vision and dedication of pioneers like Dr. Vikram Sarabhai that laid the foundation for ISRO’s current achievements.”
He further stated that India, now a major space power, has accomplished what many other nations have not, and expressed confidence that the dream of an Indian space station would become a reality by 2047.
The session was highly interactive, with Dr. Kiran Kumar patiently addressing students’ queries and encouraging their curiosity about space science. He elaborated on the significance of Lunar and Martian missions and inspired students to be part of India’s future in space exploration.
The event was presided over by Dr. Wooday P. Krishna, Honorary Secretary of Seshadripuram Educational Trust, who underscored the transformative impact of technology and praised the institute for offering skill-based training to students right from their first year.
Dr. Prahlad Rao, Principal, welcomed. M.S. Nataraj, Honorary Assistant Secretary of the Trust, along with HoDs, faculty, staff and students, were present.
