Information Department Commissioner calls for better use of social media

Mysore/Mysuru: Department of Information and Public Relations Commissioner Dr. P.S. Harsha has called upon officials to use popular social media platforms for communicating Government programmes and projects to the people.

He was addressing officials at the Department office on Dhanvanthri Road here on Saturday.

Pointing out that Social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter are being widely used by the people, Dr. Harsha said that such popular platforms must be best utilised by officials for spreading awareness about Government schemes, programmes, projects, plans, initiatives etc., among the public.

Noting that any information can be got at fingertips these days because of technological advancements, he said that officials, utilising the inputs available  with them, should ensure that Government schemes reach the targeted sections of the society.

Continuing, the Commissioner said that officials must contact University of Mysore if they find it necessary to train media representatives on field publicity.

Stating that it is necessary for appropriate utilisation of social media during these trying times of COVID-19  crisis, Dr. Harsha said that he was always supportive of all good ideas and things.

Maintaining that Mysuru region has a great tourism potential that needs to be tapped further, he said that officials must take steps for publishing articles in print, social and electronic media on all the important tourist destinations and other hotspots in the region.

Emphasising on the need for the Department officials to improve their working skills, he said that apart from issuing press notes, importance must also be given for disposal of files. He also called for better co-ordination between officials at different levels of the Department  for ensuring  office efficiency.
