Inner Wheel Milestone-2019: Sadhguru calls for eco-friendly initiatives to save River Cauvery

September 8, 2019

Mysuru: People are more worried about economic condition of the country and not about conservation of environment and natural resources, said Isha Foundation Founder Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev here yesterday.

He was speaking after inaugurating ‘Milestone,’ a two-day South Zone Meet 2019 of Association of Inner Wheel Clubs in India hosted by Inner Wheel District 318 of Mysuru at Asha Prakash Shetty Bunts Convention Centre in Vijayanagar and added that people with greed to earn more over exploit the natural resources without thinking about the future. “Cauvery Calling is an initiative to create awareness about growing forest, especially in the Cauvery basin to ensure availability of water throughout the year,” he added.

Stating that Central Government, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu Governments had responded positively for ‘Cauvery Calling,’ Sadhguru said that about 82 percent of forest had been destroyed on the Cauvery basin and added that the authorities had to be apprised about the need for taking up afforestation programme on the Cauvery basin. He also added that the increase in the use of chemical fertilisers was harming the soil at an alarming rate and added that if continued it would not be possible to grow any crop in the next 50 years.
