Mysuru: In a bid to streamline traffic and to prevent accidents, the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), following suggestion from the City Road Safety Committee, have begun installing concrete road dividers from Old RMC Circle till Highway Circle (Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Circle).
This is an ever busy road connecting various localities such as Bamboo Bazar, Tilaknagar and Bannimantap among other areas. This is also a connecting road to Bengaluru and beyond, which sees thousands of vehicles on a daily basis especially trucks plying to and fro from Bannimantap Industrial Area.
As there is a slope on this road, accidents used to take place frequently and trucks used to be parked on the road side top go to the weighbridge causing traffic jams. Also, there are a lot of hotels and a fruit market on this road resulting in vehicles being parked haphazardly resulting in disturbance to smooth movement of vehicles especially ambulances.
Considering all these factors, concrete road dividers are being installed. But a few hoteliers have raised objections to installing road dividers stating that customers are moving forward as they have to take a roundabout route to come to their hotels which may result in them suffering business loss. Despite opposition, the works on installing the concrete dividers are going on.
