Intensify quality checks at street food joints

Book cases against those selling sub-standard quality food: ADC

Mysore/Mysuru: Additional Depuy Commissioner (ADC) Dr. P. Shivaraju directed officials to book cases against food vendors found selling sub-standard quality food.

He was speaking after presiding over District-level Consultative Committee meeting on implementation of the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006 (FSS Act) at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office here recently.

Pointing out that there are 3 circles in MCC limits for checking food quality as per FSS                               Act, Dr. Shivaraju said a survey was conducted on the quality of 130 types of recipes, in the 3-month  period between October 2025 and December 2025. Such checks should be increased in the coming days, he pointed out.

Noting that more number of people flock street food vendors, the ADC instructed the officials to carry out more quality checks in all street food joints across the city.

“ Food sellers, whose turnover crosses Rs.1.5 crore, should mandatorily get license after applying in the FSSAI website. At the same time, the food sellers whose turnover is below Rs.1.5 crore should mandatorily get registered”, he said.

Observing that multiple boiling of junk and other such foods will have a serious effect on the health of users, Dr. Shivaraju directed the officials to carryout periodic checks on hotels and other street food joints for quality testing and to find out whether any chemicals or additives are used.

He also asked the officials to check source of edible oil, use and ways of disposal of used oil in hotels, eateries and other food joints.

MCC Food Safety and Pharma Administration Designated Officer Dr. S.L. Ravindra said the department has filed a total of 24 cases in Court for violation of FSS Act, out of which 6 cases have been disposed off, with the Court imposing a total penalty of Rs. 70,000 on offenders of the Act.
