Inter-Collegiate Handball & Basketball Tournaments

St. Joseph’s First Grade College, Jayalakshmipuram, Mysuru, in association with Department of Physical Education, University of Mysore, had organised Mysore University Inter-Collegiate Chamundi Zone Handball (Men) and Mysore City Inter-Collegiate Basketball Men and Women Tournaments at St. Joseph’s College Ground recently.

Rev. Fr. Vijay Kumar, Secretary and Correspondent, MDES, inaugurated the event by shooting the ball into the basket. In his Presidential Address, he underlined the importance of sports to health and fitness in daily lives. He opined that sportsmen possess a unique combination of physical abilities, mental attributes, and character traits that set them apart and make them special in the world of sports and beyond.

Rev. Fr. Avinash, Administrator, MDES; H.N. Chandrashekara, Principal, St. Joseph’s First Grade College; R. Shilpa, Vice-Principal, St. Joseph’s First Grade College, K.S. Harish Kumar, Physical Education Director and a host of students were present at the event.

A total of 28 teams actively took part in the tournament. The list of winners is as follows:

Men’s Division— Handball: 1st place – SBRR Mahajana First Grade College; 2nd – PGSC, Manasagangothri and 3rd – St. Joseph’s First Grade College, Jayalakshmipuram; Basketball: 1st – JSS Medical College, 2nd – National Institute of Engineering and 3rd – SBRR Mahajana First Grade College.

Women’s Division — Basketball: 1st – Teresian Degree College, 2nd – Teresian PU College and 3rd – JSS Medical College.
