Mysuru: Mysore Art Gallery, as part of its monthly ‘Interaction with Achiever,’ featured handicrafts artist Shrimathi Arunkumar at a programme held at its premises on Ramanuja Road on Saturday.

Exhibits crafted by Shrimathi were put on display at the Gallery which included woollen dolls, cloth purses and handbags, embroidery works on sarees and churidars. The rare display was colourful rangoli drawn on water.

Speaking on the occasion, Shrimathi recalled that her mother used to make mats, caps and baskets from grass along with items from beads which inspired her to pick up the art. She added that after quitting her job in Department of Posts she picked up many other forms of art like designing bridal make-up, cloth decorations and embossing.

When questioned whether the art had given room for self-employment, Shirmathi replied in the affirmative and added that such decorative art had attracted the present generation too. Also on display were coins from 20 countries, all collected by Shrimathi.

Former President of District Kannada Sahitya Parishat Maddikere Gopal was the chief guest. Singer Dr. Snehashri Nirmal Kumar and Kannada Lecturer G. Chandrika were special invitees.

Gallery President L. Shivalingappa and Secretary Dr. Jamuna Rani Mirle were present.
