At present, city buses unnecessarily travel around Mysore Palace, Pathashala, Hardinge Circle and City Bus Stand (CBS). The buses that end its journey in CBS should only enter the city bus stand; rest of the buses should not enter CBS at all like in Bengaluru.
For instance, Route No. 20 from Sharadadevinagar to JP Nagar goes all the way to CBS roaming around the Palace. Why not directly via Ballal Circle? No one travelling from JP Nagar and Chamundipuram would use this route to Sharadadevinagar.
Earlier, we had Route No. 10 which did not enter CBS; now a new variant 10C has been introduced again to roam around city bus stand to go from JP Nagar to Infosys wasting fuel and time, thus causing congestion in Central Business District (CBD).
What is needed is end-to-end city connectivity by buses without entering city bus stand except the ones which end their journey there and running like Metro with 2-3 minutes frequency during peak hours and 5-10 minutes frequency during non- peak hours. With ITS which is perfectly working, it would be as good as Metro and predictable.
I did my schooling in Marimallappa’s. Till now, there are no buses for school children of Marimallappa’s and Sadvidya.Kids have to walk all the way to CBS wasting 10-15 minutes of time crossing chaotic Santhepet. Buses have to be routed in these kind of educational areas for the convenience of a large number of students.
We also need circular bus routes like the Kendriya Saarige of BMTC or K-Series connecting say Chamundipuram to Siddartha Layout, Udayagiri, Vijayanagar etc. Will the authorities concerned and our elected representatives wake up and change the age-old routing?
