IPL: Chennai register comfortable win over Delhi

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) beat Delhi Capitals by six wickets in the IPL Tournament at Feroz Shah Kotla here yesterday.

It wasn’t a difficult chase for Chennai as they got a good start while chasing a target of 148 runs. Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu opened but soon Chennai lost Rayudu (5 runs off 5 balls) on a score of 21 runs, while Watson on the other hand played handsomely and scored 44 runs off 26 balls with the help of four boundaries and three sixes. Amit Mishra sent Watson to pavilion and with this he also got his 50th IPL wicket.

Following Rayudu dismissal, Suresh Raina took the charge and scored 30 runs off 16 balls. Later, Raina was caught by Pant on Mishra’s delivery.

As the match went into the 18th over, pressure piled on both the side. Though Chennai had a wicket but there were limited number of balls.

Kedar Jadhav and Chennai skipper M.S. Dhoni made no mistakes further as they played slowly and eventually ended up with another victory. Captain cool struck a massive six to register another win in the IPL.

After winning the toss, Delhi Capitals were restricted at 147/6. Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan gave Delhi Capitals a solid start against Chennai but failed to post a big score.

Though wickets were falling on the other end, Dhawan maintained his pace and scored his 33rd half century.  He scored 51 runs off 47 balls. Dhawan later joined by his skipper Shreyas Iyer (18 off 20 balls), but he too couldn’t stay at the crease for a long time. He was dismissed by Tahir strikes leaving Delhi at 79/2.

Delhi could have scored more but Dwayne Bravo ended their hope of scoring big total in the 18th over, when he dismissed Dhawan. 

Rishabh Pant, who smashed an unbeaten 78 off 27 balls against Mumbai Indians, was departed for 25 runs off 13 balls. Shardul Thakur caught him at deep mid-wicket on Bravo’s ball.

Other batsmen Colin Ingram, Keemo Paul and  Axar Patel were dismissed on single digit score.  

For Delhi, Amit Mishra took two wickets and spent 35 runs, while Kagiso Rabada and Ishant Sharma took one wicket each.

Shane Watson was adjudged as the Man of the Match.
