Mysore/Mysuru: “Intellectual Property helps every creative person to convey their new ideas and inventions to the world. Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) of a person is complemented and respected and the global development is possible because of innovations and research,” opined Prof. R. Shivappa, Registrar, University of Mysore (UoM), Mysuru.

He was speaking as the chief guest of virtual workshop on ‘The Significance of Intellectual Property Rights’ organised by the IQAC under the auspices of JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science on Ooty Road in city recently.

In his inaugural address,  Prof. Shivappa felt, “The research and innovations are a continuous process that will change according to the needs of time and of use to the society.”

“Any Intellectual Property that is not covered by RTI cannot be adequately utilised. Intellectual Property Rights can help new ideas to develop and help the researcher/ innovator to share his intellectual wealth to the world. This will help the country to develop economically. Similarly, it helps the researcher to grow economically and to get an exposure of his knowledge. This gives recognition not only to the individual but to the nation at global level,” he said.

He also felt that respecting the opinions of the individual is a true humanity that in turn protects humanity.

Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah, the Chief Executive of the College, who presided over the programme, said that the problems and developments go hand in hand with the course of human development.

“There are many new problems in the world today. Those problems can only be tackled effectively by new inventions and researches. In that context, Intellectual Property Rights is essential for the development of research and innovation. Intellectual Property Rights alone can protect our intellectual thinking and thereby help the growth of the world,” he added.
