Three chain-snatching attempts, one successful in 20 days
Mysuru: With three women targeted by chain snatchers in a span of 20 days, it looks like Vidyaranyapuram, 4th Main, 3rd Cross has become a hub for chain snatchers, causing fear among the residents.
Yesterday at about 8 pm, a chain snatcher attempted to yank off the gold chain from a newly-wed who was on her way to home from a shop.
But when the woman held on to her chain tightly and screamed for help, the chain snatcher began to hit her on the head repeatedly causing injuries. As the woman’s screams began to attract passersby, the chain snatcher left her and sped away on a Bajaj Pulsar bike. It is learnt that the woman has been admitted to a hospital.
About four to five days ago, an attempt to snatch a gold chain was made on the same road. The chain snatcher, who came on an electric scooter, made an attempt to snatch the gold chain of a woman, who was on her way home along with her daughter-in-law.
As the woman had secured her gold chain with a safety pin to her saree, the gold chain broke into two with one part falling on the road and the other still secured to the saree. The woman had also sustained injuries on her neck.
About 15 days ago, a chain snatcher managed to snatch a gold chain from a woman on the same road. The woman was so shocked that she was unable to scream for help as it happened all of a sudden. Residents said that the woman has sustained injuries on her neck, when the chain snatcher tugged at the gold chain.
Vidyaranyapuram, 4th Main, 3rd Cross has turned into a dangerous place. There are no adequate streetlights on this road and there are three to four escape routes for the chain snatchers. Hence, the chain snatchers become active on this road once it becomes dark and target lonely women walking on this road.
Despite such incidents took place on the same road in a span of 20 days, the Police have not intensified their patrolling though the chain snatching incidents were brought to their notice and even urging them to intensify patrolling on this road after dark.
Residents, who said that they have not seen a single Policeman on this road, have urged the higher Police authorities to deploy Police personnel on this road and prevent chain snatching incidents in future.
