It was indeed an Honest Deed

August 5, 2019

Sir,

Apropos the report titled “HONEST DEED” on the front page in yesterday’s SOM, I want to congratulate two sets of people.

A father and a son from our city became instantly famous for their wonderful display of corruption-free character. They became famous for their mental strength to resist temptation.

I said two sets of people — one, of course, Anirudh and his father Raghavendra who found a wad of huge currency, Rs. 60,000 on the road while they were going somewhere. The bundle contained a name and a bank challan, with all the details.

Many in their situation would have considered themselves chosen by Goddess Lakshmi to reward them (for reasons not known) and quietly pocketed the sum. But the father-son duo immediately did the most laudable act. They tried to contact the Police and the press (Star of Mysore in this case) in their attempt to mitigate the anguish and despondency on the part of the owner of the property. It is people like Anirudh and Raghavendra who have the strength of honesty and COURAGE. It is so because corrupt people are cowards who succumb easily to temptations of selfishness.

Secondly, my salutation to the newspaper, Star of Mysore, our favourite evening daily, which rightly recognised the virtue of the father and son by publishing the “DEED OF HONESTY,” not in a corner of a middle page but on the front page as a headline. This is another example by SOM of building a strong relationship with the society it serves.

Certainly the father and the son were not expecting to hit headlines when they left their home and found the wad of currency by chance and decided to find the owner. It is a natural act for them, to live a life of pride and purity, free from temptations. Such persons are a definite asset to our society.
