Mysuru: The Mysuru Central Jail Warder was arrested by Bettadapura Police in Periyapatna, Mysuru district, yesterday for allegedly recording an abusive video against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and posting the video on social media platforms. The accused Warder is Madhu Kumar of Bettadapura.
Police produced him before a Court which remanded him to judicial custody. Madhu Kumar is now lodged in K.R. Nagar Sub Jail.
As the video went viral, Chief Superintendent of Mysuru Jail had suspended Madhu Kumar for misconduct on Monday, pending Departmental inquiry.
Meanwhile, the video had sparked outrage among Congress workers, who staged a protest outside Mysuru jail demanding the arrest of the Jail Warder.
Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) Spokesperson M. Lakshmana, who led the protest, said that though the jail authorities had suspended the Warder for misconduct, an FIR should be registered against him and he should be arrested.
Lakshmana alleged that the Warder had spoken badly about the CM’s wife besides offending the Muslim community. He said that the Warder’s video not only violated the Karnataka State Civil Services (Conduct) Rules 2021, but also disturbed peace in the society and hence a FIR should be registered against the Warder besides arresting him.
District Congress President Dr. B.J. Vijaykumar and others took part in the protest.
