Mysore/Mysuru: Members of various Jain organisations staged a silent protest, at Gandhi Square in the city on Friday, condemning the atrocities being committed against the community and killings in North India.

The protesters said, Jainism is one of the oldest religions, which spread the message of non-violence to the mankind in the world. The community has been practicing the religion and living without harassing anybody and is involved in social and religious activities.

In an accident that occurred in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa town on May 20, Aryika Shri Shrutmati Mataji, Aryika Shri Upashammati Mataji and another Sadhvi, were walking on the roadside, when an unidentified vehicle deliberately hit them, killing the first two sadhvis, while another was left injured in the hit-and-run. Close on the heels of this incident, Jain Munis Acharya Ajit Maharaj and Muni Vijay Maharaj, had a miraculous escape in a similar incident reported at Rajkot in Gujarat. The community is deeply hurt by these incidents, the protesters said, besides warning of launching an intensified protest, if there are any recurrence of such incidents in the future.

President of Digambar Jain Samaj M.R. Sunil Kumar, Vice-President Bharat Raj, Secretary P.S. Lakshmish Babu, Treasurer Jwalendra Kumar, Executive Committee Members A.N. Dharanendran, Chandrashekar Uriga, President of Padmashri Mahila Samaj Nandini Sanjay, Vice-president Jayalalitha, Secretary Suma Dayakar, President of Jain Teertha Kshetra Committee Vinod Bakliwal took part in the protest.
