Jashn-e-Urdu at Farooqia

Mysuru:  Farooqia PU College, Eidgah, Mysuru, recently celebrated “Jashn-e-Urdu.” Prof. Mohammed Jaffer, who was the chief guest, traced the history of Urdu language and contribution made by great stalwarts. Abdul Jabbar, Principal of the College, presided.

On the occasion, renowned Urdu poet Abdul Khadir Ariff was felicitated by Prof. M. Sayeed Ahmed, Hon.Secretary of the College, in recognition of his contribution to Urdu literature. Ariff is the author of six books — Phool Aur Kante, Nishate Sakhun, Payam-e-Ariff, Saday-e- Inqilab, Majmu-e-Hamd -O-Nath and Islah-ul-Muslimeen.

Prof. Riyaz Ahmed, President, Rifahul Muslimeen Educational Trust (RMET), honoured noted artist and calligrapher Syed Munawar Hussain for his outstanding contribution to the field of fine arts. Hussain is a graduate from Chamarajendra Technical Institute, Mysuru and a Diploma holder from JJ School of Art, Mumbai. He had the rare honour of working with famous art directors of Bollywood and has contributed in the designing of posters and banners of yesteryear films such as Mughal-e-Azam, Kohinoor, Chhote Nawab, Pyaar Ki Pyaas etc. His creative work includes oil and water colour paintings; has designed cover page of over 100 books.

An exhibition of his paintings on the poetic couplets of renowned Urdu Poet Ghalib was inaugurated by Prof. Afroz Ahmed, Council Member of Farooqia PU College. Syed Imtiyaz Ahmed, sponsor of “Syed Mohammed Memorial Inter-collegiate Urdu Essay competition” presented prizes to the winners. Taj Mohammed Khan, Hon.Secretary, RMET, presented the Rolling Shield to the first prize winner Umme Hani of Farooqia Girls PU College.

The function commenced with recitation of Holy Quran by Hamid Farhan, II PU Commerce student. Muskan of II PU Arts rendered Tarane-Farooqia; Kulsum of I PU Arts recited Taran-e-Taleem; Najmuddin  of II PU Commerce, sang a Ghazal of Dr. Iqbal (Kabhi Aye Haqeqat-e- Muntazir Nazer); Mohsin Sharieff of II PU Commerce recited the Urdu poem of Dr. Mohammed Iqbal “Khitab ba Naujan-e- Muslim.”

Muskan of II  PU Science compered. Urdu Mushaira was conducted with Abdur Rahman Khan Gowher Tarikervi in the chair. Mohammed Hussain of II PU Commerce  performed the duties of Nizamat. Famous Urdu poets Syed Ahmed Rahil, Prof. Mohammed Ziaulla, Abdul Khadir Ariff, Naveed Ahmed Siddique, Hakeem Sayeed, Najma Banu and Gowher Tarikervi recited their compositions.

Shahwar Jahan, Lecturer in Urdu and Convenor,  welcomed. Faizan Sharieff, II PU Commerce student, read a brief report on the activities of Anjuman-e-Urdu. Abubaker Siddique of I PU Science proposed a vote of thanks.
