Mysore/Mysuru: “The dignity and respect which teachers get from society, is not found in anybody else,” opined veteran writer Bannur K. Raju.

He was speaking after inaugurating a function jointly organised by Kaveri Balaga and Hiranmayee Pratishtana at Namana Kala Mantap in Krishnamurthypuram on Sunday to confer Jeevanadi Cauvery Awards to primary school teachers.

Terming teaching as the noblest profession, Bannur Raju said that just like Cauvery river flows eternally, best teachers also remain eternal. “Just like river Cauvery gives life to everybody, teachers teach lessons to improve the knowledge of students. Govt. Schools also have many talented teachers and the society should make proper use of them,” he observed.

Stating that Governments should not overburden teachers with other works apart from teaching, he asked the Government not to depute teachers for election related duties as is being done now. Without additional work load they will serve the society even better, he said and asked teachers to share their knowledge to more people even after their retirement.

Retired DDPI Manjula, who spoke on the occasion, felt that in the present education system, priority is being given to score marks rather than imparting humane values. Scoring marks is different from practising humane values. In this connection, we need to introspect whether our education is moving in the right direction, she said.
