Mysore/Mysuru: A workshop on “Career Opportunities and Employability Skills” was held under the RUSA 2.0 project by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Maharaja’s College, University of Mysore recently.
Inaugurating the programme, Maharaja’s College Principal Prof. V. Shanmugam said that a strong command of language and skill development are important factors for success in the career of students.
Journalism is a powerful medium that shapes the direction of society and a good newspaper positively shapes the society by attracting attention; on the other hand, a newspaper that provides false or misleading information has an adverse effect on the society, he said.
Thus, responsible journalism is an important basis for the development of the nation. In today’s competitive era, it is essential for students to develop their communication skills, which also leads to personality development, he noted.
Dr. J. Lohith, IQAC Coordinator, Mysore University, who was a resource person, explained the need for language proficiency and effective communication skills for journalism students.
Another resource person, G. Jadiyappa, Deputy Director, Department of Information and Public Relations, Government of Karnataka, gave comprehensive information to students about various job opportunities available in the field of mass communication and journalism and motivated them to develop their skills and build a good career in the future.

M.K. Keerthana and P. Deeksha compered. Dr. K.N. Basavaraju, faculty, Department of Philosophy, read the Preamble to the Constitution. Faculty members of the Department Dr. Gopal, Dr. Shwetha M. Hans, Kesavamurthy, Dr. N. Naveena and faculty members and students of other departments were present.
