‘Journalists should involve in sports to stay healthy’

Two-day MDJA Annual Sports Meet concludes

Mysore/Mysuru: Journalists, who work under pressure must make sometime to involve in sports activities to stay healthy both mentally and physically, said MLA G.D. Harish Gowda here yesterday.

Speaking at the valedictory of the two-day Annual Sports Meet organised by the Mysuru District Journalists Association (MDJA) at Oval Grounds in city yesterday, he said that journalists who are always on their toes in tracking local, State, National and International news, are bound to get stressed. However, they should spare sometime, get involved in the sports activities to keep themselves fit,  he added.

Mountaineer Dr. Usha Hedge, who was felicitated on the occasion, said that cultivating sporting spirit was important for journalists who always work for the betterment of the society.

“At the age of 52 years, I decided to summit the Mount Everest which was possible through continuous effort and sporting spirit,” said Dr. Usha Hegde, who urged journalists to develop sporting spirit.

Earlier in the day, MLA T.S. Srivatsa inaugurated the badminton tournament for journalist at University of Mysore Sports Pavilion. University of Mysore Vice-Chancellor Prof. N.K. Lokanath, The Times Creations Founder Harish Kumar, Mysore Hotel Owners Association President C. Narayanagowda, MDJA President K. Deepak and others were present during the valedictory.

On day one, H.D. Kote MLA Anil Chikkamadu, who inaugurated the MDJA Annual Sports Meet on Saturday, said that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had provided land for the construction of new building for MDJA and added that the Journalists Association should take interest and ensure that the construction works are completed as early as possible to be inaugurated Chief Minister Siddaramaiah himself.

International Swimmer S. Thanya, Mysore University Department of Physical Education Director Dr. C. Venkatesh, Vidwath Innovative Solutions Pvt. Ltd. Founder Rohit M. Patil, APN Properties Managing Partner A.P. Nagesh, Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports Assistant Director Bhaskar Nayak and MDJA office-bearers were present.

The two-day event witnessed journalists and their family members taking part in the various sports activities including cricket, lemon and spoon race, sack race, shot put, running races, kite flying, musical chair, ball in the bucket and badminton.
