Mysuru: JSS College of Physiotherapy, Mysuru, had organised the 3rd National ‘PGCON 2017’ recently at Sri Rajendra Centenary Auditorium in JSS Hospital campus. The post-graduate conference (PGCON) was conceived in 2013 to complement physiotherapy PG education. Now in its third edition, the focus was on ‘back to basics’ and interdisciplinary themes.
Chief guest Prof. N. Sai Kumar, Chairman, Board of Studies – Physiotherapy, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bengaluru, spoke about Physiotherapy’s role in rehabilitation of patients with different kinds of disorders. He stressed the need for research in the field of Physiotherapy and appreciated the role of JSS College of Physiotherapy in imparting education as well as clinical patient care in the JSS Hospital.
Keynote address was delivered by Dr. Subramonium Ranagaswami, former Vice-Chancellor, Sri Ramachandra University, Chennai, who highlighted about the perceptual tools for clinical practice from a historical perspective. An e-souvenir of PGCON3 was released by the dignitaries on the ocassion.
R. Mahesh, Director of Medical Education, JSS Mahavidyapeetha, presided. PGCON – 2017 conference was partly funded by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bengaluru.
The resource persons for the conference were Dr. Subramonium Ranagaswami and Dr. Kavitha Raja, Principal, JSS College of Physiotherapy, Mysuru for the topic ‘Clinical Reasoning; B. Naveen Kumar, Faculty, Dept. of Physiotherapy, Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad and Dr. Leister Sam Sudheer Maickam, Adjunct Professor in Clinical Psychology, Mhat (Mental Health Action Trust), Calicut for the topic ‘Outcome Measures’; Tanvi Bajaj, Director, Cogitohub, New Delhi and Dr. Vandhana Phadke, Senior Clinical Research Associate, Indian Spinal Injuries Centre, New Delhi for the topic ‘ Movement for Function’; Dr. L. Sathyanarayana, Scientist Grade ‘G’ and Dr. Smitha Ashthana, Scientist Grade ‘D’, ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research) for the topic ‘Research Methods’.
There were around 58 poster presentations by PG students on inter-disciplinary themes. The pre-conference workshops were held on topics of ‘Dynamic Tapping’ by Dr. S. Gopakumar, Founder and Chairman, Core Physio, India and ‘Vestibular rehabilitation’ by T. Lenny Vasanthan, Faculty, CMC Vellore and Dr. Manju Deena Mammen, CMC Vellore.
