JSS Medical College launches Family Adoption Programme at Hanchya

Mysore/Mysuru: The Department of Community Medicine, JSS Medical College, Mysuru, has launched the Family Adoption Programme in Hanchya village of Mysuru district, where MBBS students were allotted families. 

The students will follow these families throughout their course and keep a tab on their health and disease status and give them necessary recommendations. The logbook for the Family Adoption Programme was also released on the occasion.

Dr. D. Sunil Kumar, Professor and Head, Department of Community Medicine of the College, advised the gathering regarding the need for the Family Adoption Programme in the rural setup amidst the covid-19 pandemic.

He briefed about the adoption programme where each of the first year MBBS students were allotted two houses at Hanchya village to know regarding the health status of the rural population and to provide health education, awareness, primary health care and referral services at their doorstep.

Taluk Health Officer Dr. Rajeshwari was enlightened to see first year MBBS students actively taking part in the family adoption programme.  She emphasised on the importance of rural health services as a curriculum for undergraduate students.

Medical Officer of Hanchya PHC Dr. Ravindra spoke on the need for primary health care services which they do on day-to-day basis for the rural population along with the help of Health Officers, ANMs, ASHA workers and other field workers.

The programme was coordinated by Dr. Amoghashree and Dr. S. Rashmi, Senior Residents, Dr. Nagendra, Medicosocial worker, along with Postgraduates and Health workers of the Department of Community Medicine, JSS Medical  College, Mysuru.
