‘JSS Mysore Urban Haat Utsav’ to conclude on April 5

Mysuru:  Here is an opportunity for women to lay their hands on varieties of sarees with different designs and dress materials of several States under one roof at the  ongoing ‘JSS Mysore Urban Haat Utsav,’ a Special Handloom Expo, Handicraft Exhibition and Kalavaibhava organised by Development Commissioner of Handlooms in association with the Office of the Development Commissioner of Handicrafts, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India and the Department of Industry and Commerce, Government of Karnataka, at JSS Urban Haat in Hebbal here.

Since it started on Mar. 23, people are thronging the venue to get what they want; especially summer design sarees and dress materials are sold like hot cakes.

Live Demonstration & Craft Training

The venue is not only a place to get best things but also a platform to learn different art including terracotta pot painting, key chain designing and dry flower paintings from expert artisans free of cost.

Jameela Banu from T. Narasipur, Mysuru district, who is into terracotta painting for the past more than 12 years and who has put up a stall at the Utsav said, “In recent days there is a growing demand for terracotta related works. People are getting attracted to terracotta works and the youngsters are also showing keen interest to learn this art.”

Raghunath Singh from Mumbai, who is into key chain designing said “Earlier key chain used to cost more but now the attractive key chain starts from just Rs. 50 to Rs. 80 and people are interested to learn this art also.” More than 80 craftspersons, weavers and  Weavers Societies from across the country are exhibiting and selling their attractive traditional and heritage artefacts and handloom products in this exhibition.

The Utsav will be open from 10 am to 9 pm on all the days till April 5. There is no entry and parking fee for the exhibition, according to a press release from M. Shivananjaswamy, Project Officer, JSS Mysore Urban Haat.
