Mysuru: The third year Computer Science and Engineering students of JSS Science and Technology University (SJCE) have won first prize in a Hackathon event titled #Hackabout 2017 conducted by Royal Philips Bengaluru recently.
Philips, a global leader in health technology, with an Innovation campus in Bengaluru, conducted the Hackathon based on its Data Science Platform (DSP).
The competition comprised multiple rounds followed by finale at the Philips Innovation Campus. Round 1 consisted of problems related to semantic similarities. Twenty teams made it through to the next round.
In Round 2, teams gained access to Philips Data Science Platform to propose solution for predicting the length of patients’ stay in ICU. Philips selected the top 10 teams, which included teams from IIT Madras, Manipal Institute of Technology, JSS S&T University for the final round.
Each team presented their solution at the Philips Innovation Campus and answered questions posed by the jury and audience. The jury comprised Srinivas Prasad, CEO, Philips Innovation Campus, J. Vijayananda, Sr. Director at Philips Healthcare, and John Huffman, Business Lead, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, Philips.
About 70 teams with approximately 300 students from various colleges across India participated in this competition and JSS Science and Technology University emerged victorious. The JSS team included R. Shashank, B.S. Ashwin, B. Ajay, Amogha Subramanya and their mentor Dr. K.M. Anil Kumar.
