Mysore/Mysuru: Automatic water sprinklers to douse flame during forest fire, solar wireless charging device for Electric Vehicles (EVs), thermocol aeroplane model powered by battery, battery operated bicycle for farmers and machine to clean water cans.
These are some of the inventions of budding engineers on display at the two-day Open Day event that began on Saturday. It is organised by JSS Science and Technology University (JSS STU) and Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering (SJCE), Mysuru. It is open from 10 am to 6 pm, with the last day being today and the entry is free.
The students of Environmental Engineering Department M.B. Lekhana, M. Sushmitha and Keerthi R. Gowda have devised automatic sprinklers that works on a wireless sensor. When fire erupts in the forest, the water sprinklers douse the flame on their own, with the help of technology. The technology has been successfully put to use on a pilot basis in college campus.
Another innovative idea that holds relevance is, Solar Wireless Charger that helps in recharging the battery of EVs without relying on electricity. The students of Electrical & Electronics Engineering Department Sowmya, P. Pooja, S. Keerthana, C. Sumana Sumitra have invented the device that can charge EVs on the lines of magnetic power, desisting from using the conventional method of charging the battery by fixing the plug to the socket.
Battery Operated Cycle comes in handy for farmers in transporting any articles weighing up to 100 kg. It has been built using 3 batteries & single charge keeps the cycle running for up to 60 km. The credit of designing this green friendly cycle goes to students L. Agnitej, K. Manu, G. Nesara and V. Santosh.
Industrial Production Engineering students have built a machine that can clean 20-litre water cans used to fetch water from Pure Drinking Water units. The students team included Mallikarjun, G.N. Manjunath and S. Chandan. While Prabhu, Pratham, Sudeep and Sanath, students of Electronics & Communication Engineering, have designed a Smart Helmet, that can benefit miners who work in difficult conditions. If they encounter any challenging situations, distress message will be dispatched to control unit to enable rescue operations in a jiffy.
A tiny model of aeroplane built using thermocol and operated on battery support was also flown, much to the delight of curious students.
Earlier, JSS Mahavidyapeetha Executive Secretary Dr. C.G. Betsurmath inaugurated the Open Day at SJCE Statue Circle in the presence of JSS STU Vice-Chancellor Dr. A.N. Santosh Kumar, Registrar Dr. S.A. Dhanaraj and Principal Dr. C. Nataraju.
Event Conveners Dr. K.M. Anil Kumar, Dr. B.S. Mahanand, Dr. M.N. Nagendra Prasad, University officers, Heads of all Departments, staff and students from various institutions in and around Mysuru were also present.
Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) former Nodal Officer Prof. Udayashankara conducted an interactive session on CET counselling process, offering aspiring students and their parents essential information and guidance to navigate the admission process effectively.
