JSS to host 30th Annual State Conference of Karnataka Medicolegal Society on Nov. 25 and 26

Two-day meet to discuss about current trends and developments in Forensic Medicine and allied branches like Cyber Forensics, Forensic Anthropology and Criminology

Mysore/Mysuru: The Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, JSS Medical College, Mysuru, is hosting the 30th Annual State Conference of Karnataka Medicolegal Society (KAMLSCON-2022) with the theme ‘Collaborative Forensics’ on Nov. 25 and 26 at Sri Rajendra Auditorium, JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysuru.

Addressing a press meet at  Pathrakarthara Bhavan in city yesterday, Dr. M. Arun, Professor and Head of Forensic Medicine, JSS Medical College, who is also the Organising Chairman of KAMLSCON-2022, said that Justice K.N. Phaneendra, Upa Lokayukta, Government of Karnataka and former Judge of Karnataka High Court, will be  the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony at 9 am.

Dr. Surinder Singh, Vice-Chancellor, JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research (JSS AHER), will preside over the function. Dr. B. Manjunatha, Registrar, JSS AHER and Dr. H. Basavanagowdappa, Principal, JSS Medical College will be the guests of honour.

The two-day Conference is designed to bring various professional and experts actively involved in scientific investigation of crime and to discuss and deliberate about the current trends and developments in the field of Forensic Medicine and allied branches of Forensic Sciences like Cyber Forensics, Forensic Anthropology and Criminology.

The Conference aims to identify the areas for collaboration of Forensic Medicine with allied divisions of Forensic Sciences and Criminology for effective and efficient Medicolegal Investigations, applying the collaborative approach in Forensic Research and implementing collaboration in Under-Graduate and Post-Graduate Medical Education.

With ever increasing awareness regarding execution of crimes in the society, there is a need of up-gradation of the knowledge, skills and performance on the part of Medical Doctors and Cyber Experts directly involved in Scientific Investigation of Crime. Adequate training is also essential for PG students of Forensic Medicine, ancillary faculty like Forensic Scientists, Police Officers and Lawyers. Hence the proposed Conference intends to explore the possibilities of collaboration of Forensic Medicine with other Allied branches of Medicine and Sciences.

The Conference has had more than 200 registrations from Karnataka and neighbouring States of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and from far away States like Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and New Delhi. The delegates are from Forensic Medicine Specialists, Forensic Scientists, experts from banking and pharmaceutical Industries, General Medical Practitioners, PG Students of Forensic Medicine and Forensic Sciences, Police Officers and Lawyers.

There are six guest lectures by experts and four Plenary Sessions of Oral and Poster Presentations from faculty and PG students of Forensic Medicine.

Quiz: There will be an Innovative Quiz ‘ENQUESTA’ for the registered PG students with attractive cash prizes to be won.

 The Conference will also recognise the outstanding performances of PG Medical students and Faculty of Forensic Medicine and confer meritorious awards to them: Dr. Varsha Patil from MS Ramaiah Medical College, Bengaluru and Dr. Suraj Patel from Shimoga Institute of Medical Sciences, Shivamogga, have won the Gold and Silver Medals, respectively, in Post-Graduates of RGUHS Category; Dr. Ajmal Bin Latheef from Yenepoya Medical College, Yenepoya University, Mangaluru, has won the 1st place in Post-Graduates of Deemed Universities Category.

Dr. P. Ranjit Immanuel James, Assistant Professor of Forensic Medicine from Christian Medical College, Vellore, will be awarded with ‘Sri. M. Madhukar Memorial Travel Grant Award for KAMLS Faculty Achiever of the Year 2022’; Dr. Vina Vaswani, Professor of Forensic Medicine from Yenepoya Medical College, Mangaluru, with ‘KAMLS Life Time Achievement Award’ for the Year 2022, for her exemplary services and contributions to the Specialty of Forensic Medicine and to KAMLS.
