Mysore/Mysuru: “Judges and advocates are the two wheels of chariot called Justice. The chariot of justice can move smoothly only when these two discharge their duties with due diligence and in an efficient manner. It is the responsibility of Judges and advocates to deliver justice,” opined Karnataka High Court Judge M.G. Uma.

She was speaking after inaugurating the anniversary celebrations of Mysore Bar Association organised on the eve of summer vacation for Civil Courts at the Association premises on Apr. 27. A music programme was also organised on the occasion.

Observing that only a very few cases will reach High Court and Supreme Court, the Judge said that this is because more than 75% of clients have no resources to fight their cases in higher courts. “Hence, the Judges and advocates of Taluk and District Courts must discharge their duties with due diligence and provide justice,” she added.

“The strong foundation (collecting of strong evidence) laid by the advocates to strengthen their case at the Trial Courts (taluk and district courts) cannot be changed even if the case reaches High Court and Supreme Courts. The case may take curious turns due to intelligence of the advocates or if some matter which are not brought to the notice of lower Courts are brought to the notice of higher Courts, judgement may change. Apart from these, the foundation laid to strengthen the case at lower Courts with facts and strong evidence will not change. Hence, the role of judges and advocates who work in lower Courts are very crucial,” said Judge Uma.

Continuing, she said that for clients, the judge of Trial Courts are like Supreme Court Judges as they first come to them seeking justice. Judges and advocates must bear this in mind and discharge their duties with utmost responsibility and with cohesion. Then only, you will feel a sense of fulfilment for working in the judicial system,” she said.

The Judge concluded her speech by recalling her tenure as an Additional District and Sessions Judge from 2008 to 2011 before being transferred to Ballari as the Principal District & Sessions Judge and said that her experience as a Judge in Mysuru has given her the confidence to discharge her                         duties anywhere.

Later, advocates K.M. Anand, K.V. Vasu Abhilasha and others presented light music and film songs. Mysuru Principal and Sessions Judge Prabhavati Hiremath, State Bar Council Member B.R. Chandramouli, Mysore Bar Association President S. Lokesh, Secretary A.G. Sudheer, Vice-President  M.V. Chandrashekar, ‘Law Guide’ Chief Editor H.N. Venkatesh and others were present.
