Jumbo Virat dies at Mathigodu Camp

Mysore/Mysuru: Virat, a wild elephant which was captured at Veeranahosahalli Wildlife Range on Nov. 4, 2023 and housed in Mathigodu Elephant Camp at Anechowkur Wildlife Range in Nagarahole Tiger Reserve died on Apr. 9.

Virat was said to be suffering from severe illness and was not responding to the treatment. It finally breathed its last at about 2.30 am on Apr. 9. Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) D.S. Dayanand, Veterinarian Dr. Ramesh and Range Forest Officer (RFO) D. Devaraju and staff visited the camp. Post-Mortem was conducted and the elephant carcass was buried, according to a press release from Anechowkur Wildlife Division RFO.
