Justice Santosh Hegde discharged from hospital

April 4, 2026

Bengaluru: Former Lokayukta Justice N. Santosh Hegde, who collapsed on stage while addressing the gathering at a felicitation programme organised by Bharat Scouts and Guides at Kondajji Basappa Auditorium, yesterday, was discharged from a private hospital after recovering from a sudden health scare earlier in the day.

The 85-year-old jurist collapsed on stage triggering concerns. Eyewitnesses said Justice Hegde appeared weak and uneasy before sitting down, after which he vomited and lost consciousness.

Organisers and attendees rushed to assist him and provided first aid at the venue before shifting him to a nearby private hospital. Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker U.T. Khader, who was present at the event, facilitated his prompt transfer using an official vehicle.

Medical sources indicated that the episode was likely triggered by a sudden drop in blood sugar levels, given that Justice Hegde is a diabetic. He regained consciousness after being admitted and responded positively to treatment. Later, U.T. Khader visited the hospital and said he is doing well, is conscious and has been speaking with family members.

Hospital authorities later confirmed that his condition remained stable and not life-threatening and that he was under observation. With his recovery progressing well and no complications reported, he was discharged yesterday. Doctors said he would continue to be monitored and advised further rest and follow-up care.
