Mysuru: Joining the list of sports associations like the BCCI, Badminton Association of India and All India Football Federation which have their own leagues, is our city’s Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Golf Club (JWGC). However, this league is exclusive for JWGC members and not other golfers.

JWGC had invited bids to own JWGC teams following which 13 bidders expressed interest for the eight teams. The bidding for teams was held on Oct. 22 in which the Sandalwood Strikers owned by H.M. Manu, Mysore Warriors owned by Arjun Ranga, Walkmate Aces owned by Bastian Joseph, Gravity One – Vanaja Golfers owned by B. Dhananjaya, Raj Infra Green Legends owned by Abhijna Madapur, Naksha Masters owned by Vijay Shankar, Grand Serene Royals owned by B.P. Manjunath and Saanvi’s Mysuru Tigers owned by Yashasvi Shankar were successful in bidding the teams.

Auction of players and launch of Mysore Golf League will be held on Dec. 8 following which the announcement of draws will be held on Jan. 8, 2025.

As per the initial itinerary of First Round of the tournament, Four Ball Format will be held on Jan. 11; Second Round – Foursome (Alternate Shot) will be held on Jan. 12; Third Round – Team Scramble Format will be held on Jan. 18; Fourth Round – Three-Ball Match Play Format and announcement of finalists will be held on Jan.19.

Final Round of all formats will be held on Jan. 25 followed by the valedictory event during which trophies and prizes will be distributed to the winners.

The JWGC has also made it mandatory for each team to have a senior player and a woman player.

The MGL teams have also announced the Captains and Key Players for their respective teams – Sandalwood Strikers – B.S. Krishna (Captain), N. Maneesh (Key Player); Mysore Warriors –Arjun Ranga (Captain), M.G. Chengappa (Key Player); Walkmate Aces – Dr. Abraham Thomas (Captain), M. Chirayu (Key Player); Gravity One-Vanaja Golfers – B. Dhananjaya (Captain), Arun Srinivas (Key Player); Raj Infra Green Legends – Sonam Chugh (Captain), V. Prakash (Key Player); Naksha Masters – S. Dinesh Kumar (Captain), Dr. Ravikumar (Key Player), Grand Serene – B.P. Manjunath (Captain), M.R. Surya Kumar (Key Player) and Saanvi’s Mysuru Tigers – S. Amit (Captain), N. Sudarshana (Key Player).

Golf leagues are being played in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mangaluru, Chandigarh, Mumbai, Delhi and other centres. The league happens within the Club and teams are decided depending on the handicap of players. We have the capability of eight teams.
