K.R. Circle as ‘Zero Tolerance Area’ for signal jumping!

May 13, 2018

Sir,

Signal jumping as a result of not keeping an eye on the signals has become rampant in the city including the busy Central Business District area (see photo). Many are not stopping on their own on yellow signal (on yellow signal that comes before red signal we are not supposed to cross the stop line, which many drivers and riders do not know or pretend that they do not know!) or even red signal and some are blatantly and carelessly ignoring the manual signal given by the traffic personnel.

As the pedestrian density and movement is very high at  K.R. Circle, every driver needs to follow the signals, either manual or electronic, instead of following the vehicle moving in the front for the safety of pedestrians. Otherwise, it is high time Traffic Police, as a proactive step, to declare this as a ‘Zero Tolerance Zone’ for traffic violations, especially for signal jumping, as there is every possibility of knocking down the pedestrians, as pedestrians are also not that disciplined in crossing the road.

On the spot, strict action on the violators is needed, as many are ignoring the violation notices sent by the Traffic Department. Providing more staff to catch such violators to make them aware of their violation and its consequences, besides collecting the fine, may be planned to put a full stop to such type of violations.
