K.R. Constituency voter list row:DC submits report to EC

Mysuru: Following allegations by former Minister and BJP leader S.A. Ramdas that the names of some voters have been illegally and unauthorisedly deleted from the voters list at the behest of local Congress legislator, the Mysuru Deputy Commissioner (DC) has submitted a report to the Election Commission (EC) clarifying on the issue.

Ramdas, in his complaint, had alleged that the names of 4,757 voters in K.R. Constituency were illegally deleted.

The outgoing DC D. Randeep, who looked into the matter, submitted the report, which reportedly said that the names of 4,757 voters were dropped after thorough scrutiny following receipt of 443 applications in MCC Election Branch, 830 in MCC Zonal Office-1, 1,784 in Zonal Office-2, 199 in Zonal Office-3 and 849 in Zonal Office-9, seeking deletion of names, on various grounds.

On the other allegation by Ramdas that applications were also submitted from the DC Office seeking deletion of names, the outgoing DC, quoting the MCC Commissioner in his report, said that the deletion of names was not done at the behest of any political leader or party and the electoral roll was scrutinised from 2014 to 2017 as per legal provisions.

The DC further said that appropriate action would be taken against any official if he or she is found guilty of tampering with the electoral rolls in collusion with political parties.

He further said that he had informed political leaders about the report and that he has instructed the MCC to delete names only after obtaining prior permission from the Election Commission of India.
