K.R. Hospital to get Rs. 173-crore super-speciality wing

Mysuru: The State Government is coming up with a super-speciality hospital at a cost of Rs. 173.26 crore in the K.R. Hospital premises that is popularly called “Doddaspatre,” started by the erstwhile rulers of Wadiyar dynasty for the poor people.

The State Government has given administrative approval for the private wards (on either side of the garden) in K.R. Hospital to be demolished and in its place to construct a 4,100 sq.mtrs eight floor (in all 36,950 sq.mtrs) super- speciality hospital.

The Public Works Department will implement the project. The government has given green signal for the project, out of which Rs. 123.77 crore is for civil and electrical works. Staff salary for one year, to purchase medicines, chemicals, surgical equipment – Rs. 26.49 crore, and other equipment – Rs. 23 crore has been earmarked, which totals to Rs. 176.39 crore.

Excluding the basement, a massive eight-floor building is coming up. In the ground floor, Medicine, Surgery, Orthopaedic, Paediatric, Casualty, ENT, Neurosurgery Departments, in the first floor, Surgical Gastro Anthropathology, Plastic Surgery and postoperative wards are going to come up.

In the second floor, Thoracic Surgery, Surgical Oncology, Neurology, Major OT; in the third floor, Cardiology, Medical Oncology, Ophthalmology, Major OT; in the fourth floor, Plastic Surgery, Histopathology and ICU Departments will come up.

The fifth floor will house Laboratories and Major OT while the sixth floor will have Cardiology, Anaesthesiology, Major OT, and in the seventh floor, there will be Nephrology and Major OT. The eighth floor will consist of Seminar Hall and Conference Hall, said Mysore Medical College and Research Institute Chief Administrative Officer B.G. Indiramma.

In the first and second basements, Scan, MRI, Ultrasound Cath Laboratory, Dark Room and  parking lot will be there, she said.

Water Supply, Underground Drainage, Medical Gasline, STP Unit and all other facilities will be provided in the Super Speciality Hospital. A tender will be called shortly for the construction work in which the Department  of Public Works, Port and Inland Transport Department will participate and the work will be completed in one-and-a-half years, she added.
