DYES promises Rs. 15 lakh cash reward, Group B Govt. job

Bengaluru: Commonwealth Games bronze medallist K.S. Shilpa of Kanchugarakoppal in K.R. Nagar taluk of Mysuru district will be rewarded with Rs. 15 lakh cash prize and a Group B Government job, said Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports (DYES) Commissioner M.N. Anucheth.

He was speaking at the felicitation ceremony of K.S. Shilpa,  organised by DYES at Sri Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru.

“Shilpa’s achievement is an inspiration for youngsters and sports personalities.  The State Government has already provided Rs. 5 lakh for the 8 para athletes who participated in the 2026 Commonwealth Games. However, Shilpa, who has made our State proud by winning a bronze medal in the Commonwealth Games will be awarded the cash prize of Rs. 15 lakh and a Group B Government job,” said Anucheth, who added that soon another felicitation event will be held in the presence of Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and Deputy CM Dr. G. Parameshwar.

Speaking on the occasion, Karnataka Olympic Association (KOA) President Dr. K. Govindaraj said that the DYES had already announced Rs. 6 crore for Olympic gold medal winners, Rs. 5 crore for silver medal and Rs. 3 crore for bronze medallist along with a Government job.

“Similarly, the State Government has also announced cash reward for achievers in national and international level sports meets,” he added.

Stating that Karnataka was the first State to reserve Government jobs for the sportspersons, Govindaraju called upon youths to work hard to bring laurels to the State and the Country.

After receiving the felicitation, Shilpa said, “I will continue to earn your trust and bring many more medals for our country and Karnataka,” she said, thanking the Government of India, the Karnataka Government, the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI), the Sports Authority of India (SAI), the Youth Services Department and everyone who supported her sporting journey.

The para-athlete credited her success to the guidance of her coaches Raghavendra, Eshan and Sudhakar, besides officials at the national training camp, saying their constant encouragement had enabled her to reach the international podium.

The DYES also felicitated Shilpa’s Head Coach Raghavendra, Assistant Coaches Satyanarayana and Pushpa Niranjan Prasad on the occasion.

DYES Principal-Secretary Naveen Raj Singh, International Coach S.D. Eshan, hockey legend Arjun Halappa, paralympian M. Mahadeva were present on the occasion.
