Kanchana Sisters to sing at Ganabharathi

Mysore/Mysuru: Ganabharathi is organising a music concert by Kanchana Sisters — Vidu. Kanchana S. Shriranjani and Vidu. Kanchana S. Shruthiranjani — at its premises on Adichunchanagiri Road in Kuvempunagar on Dec. 11 at 6 pm.

They will be accompanied by Vid. R. Achutha Rao on violin and Vid. A. Radhesh on mridanga and Vid. Raghunandan  Rao on ghata.

This will also be streamed both in YouTube and on Facebook and it is available on pages of Ganabharathi.

The programme is organised in memory of B.V. Srinivasa  Raghavan and Lalitha Raghavan. All are requested to wear masks and follow necessary guidelines in the auditorium, according to a press release from Ganabharathi Secretary T.S. Venugopal [Mob: 99000-82773].

Kanchana Sisters are among the most sought after duet vocalists in the classical music sphere today. The duo was elected to be on the esteemed Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) panel of artistes and has been performing on prestigious platforms in India and abroad.

Kanchana Sisters hail from a family of musicians. They were initiated to music at a very young age of 3. And they began presenting classical concerts at the age of 4. The sisters’ duo specialises in the rendition of ‘Avadhana Pallavis.’ 

Both earned 1st Rank in ‘Vidwat’ degree in Karnatak Classical Vocal and Violin examinations conducted by the Government of Karnataka and are ‘A’ graded artistes in All India Radio (AIR). 

Concerts of Kanchana Sisters have been telecast in Doorsharshan, SVBC, Shankara, Udaya and other local TV channels. They have performed extensively in India and abroad.

They have conceptualised, directed and performed diversified music projects and some of the popular ones include ‘Vachana Viveka’, ‘Sri Thyagaraja Seetha Kalyanam’, ‘Demonstration on Thiruppughal’  etc. They are experts in notating poetic verses on the spot and have worked with famous poets. The duo has also composed and directed background music for many music albums and dance programmes.

The duo has received many awards including ‘Ananya Yuva Pratibha Puraskara’ from Ananya Bangalore, gold medal from Padma Bhushan Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade for their music achievements.

R. Achyutha Rao is a disciple and the nephew of renowned violin and harmonium artiste Vid. Shri B. Raghuram. He is a ‘B-High’ graded artiste of AIR. He has accompanied many senior artistes of the current generation, including many top-ranking artistes in the field of Karnatak Classical. An Engineer by qualification, Achyutha Rao currently works for DELL-EMC, a technical firm in Bengaluru. 

Vidwan Mysore A. Radhesh is a disciple of Vid. P.G. Laxminarayan and now he is learning under Vid. Mannargudi Eswaran. He has accompanied many reputed musicians. 

Raghunandan Rao started learning ghata under the tutelage of Vid. Belakavadi R. Sridhar and continued his lessons under Vid. H.L. Shivashankaraswamy.  He has been accompanying several stalwarts in concerts in India and abroad for over 20 years. He is a Chartered Accountant (CA) by profession.
