‘Kannada medium will not deprive higher positions’

November 25, 2023

Mysore/Mysuru: The Managing Director of Dr. Babu Jagjivan Ram Leather Industries Development Corporation Limited (formerly LIDKAR)  KMS Vasundhara has advised youths not believe in the myth that studying in Kannada medium will not help in attaining higher positions.

She was speaking after inaugurating the Silver Jubilee celebrations of Kannada Rajyotsava held at Centenary Hall of Maharaja’s College in city on Tuesday. The function was organised by the College’s Department of Kannada and Extra-curricular Activities Committee.

“Many are under the impression that only by studying in English medium one can reach higher positions in society. Some also fear that studying in Kannada medium will deprive them of opportunities while pursing professional ambitions. But our Kannada language is very rich and has the ability to offer a good life. Nobody should feel ashamed to speak in Kannada. How can we ignore our mother-tongue? Kannada should not be just a language for us, it has to be our life,” said Vasundhara.

Asking students to have the ability to efficiently showcase their talent in Kannada, she said once that is done it would be easier for them to exhibit their talent in other languages. “Study will increase your grasping power. You must read Kannada literature and Kannada writers. When Kannada faces danger or is defamed, we all should protest unitedly. Kannada Rajyotsava should be celebrated as Karnataka Rajyotsava,” she opined.

Asserting that the State of Karnataka was not formed easily, she advised students to carry forward the legacy of our language’s dignity, glory, history and culture.
